Sonny - Our Mascot

Sonny, the HoundWood Gym USAW National Coach's 130 pound, pure breed, liver and tan bloodhound, is the HoundWood Gym Mascot and also the Mascot for the USAW HoundWood Weightlifting Team & Club. Sonny celebrated his birthday every August 19th (he was born in the year 2010) by eating a chicken and rice birthday cake made especially for him.

Sonny is no longer with us, and we miss him dearly. He is forever in our hearts and memoery.

During training, Sonny would hang out in HoundWood Gym, watching all the HoundWood Athletes make great gains and lend his support with a big, heavy paw... for at least until his dinner is ready.

Hanging out of the side of his mouth in the photo shown here (which is the photo used in the logo) is a toy mouse. Sonny's only interest in this mouse was to keep it for attention and play, as he was always seeking attention and affection. As you can see, he is looking for praise for capturing the mouse.

Sonny's hobbies were playing tug of war with his toys and our socks, playing with the Houndwood Gym Athletes, waiting for food to fall off the counter, and staring at his cookie jar so you can give him a cookie. He liked sniffing around, sleeping on pillows, walks, bones, watching weightlifting, and watching TV with the family. He disliked baths. His interests were being on the other side of the door, and chasing and barking at other animals.

Drop-Ins

For athletes visting and looking for a place to train. HoundWood Gym provides a pure Olympic Style Weightlifting facility which is fully flexible. Drop-in fees are $20 per training session, or $60 per week (for weekly, you can then train as often as you want). Please contact HoundWood Gym National Coach.

Youths, Juniors, Seniors & Masters

Plan A: Online with Programming and Coaching

$100 monthly

Includes the development of structured training programs. Lifters post his/her training session and/or lifts on the HoundWood Gym thread and USAW National Coach and national HoundWood Gym team members provide commentaries and support, feedback, and/or tips. Maximum of 1 day per week training with USAW National Coach at HoundWood Gym. Includes coaching at local and national competitions.

This plan is for lifters that would need to travel a great distance to train with USAW National Coach Gaspar Hernandez III and cannot make it more than once a week.

Youths, Juniors, Seniors & Masters

Plan A: Gym plus Online with Programming and Coaching

$140 monthly

Includes the development of structured training programs. Includes USAW National Coach Coaching at HoundWood Gym. Training under USAW National Coach ranges from 3 to 9 times per week depending on the program and level of the athlete. Includes coaching at local and national competitions. Lifters post his/her training session and/or lifts on the HoundWood Gym thread and USAW National Coach and national HoundWood Gym team members provide commentaries and support, feedback, and/or tips.
